Jumbo Crop on the Way

THE NASS SURVEY INDICATES A 4% DROP IN OVERALL CROP SIZE COMPARED TO LAST YEAR, WITH A PROJECTED 49,000 TONS COMPARED TO LAST YEAR’S 51,000.

Each tree averaged only 201 nuts compared to last year’s 291. The difference is made up by the size of the nuts, which is expected to be the largest in recent years. Jumbo nuts (NASS size class 7 and 8) accounted for 48% of the nuts sampled, last year that number was only 19%.  This is good news for Ennis growers especially as Jumbo-Giant class nuts command a premium.  Fill is also expected to be excellent which should create a high quality product for HGO to market.
